The Age Of Travel I left school at the age of sixteen and was employed as a modern apprentice by Thomas Cook travel agency. Without giving my age away, as a lady should never reveal her true age, this was quite a long time ago. Working in a travel agency was an enviable position and although the salary was not great, the travel concessions were fantastic. Over the twenty years I spent working in the industry, I travelled to China, India, Thailand, Kenya and went on sabbatical to Australia. I have fabulous memories of my adventures. When I first started to work in the Travel Industry the focus was still on luxury travel. People aspired to sit in first class and wanted the best possible hotel, airline and inflight service. Travel still had some glamour left. The air hostesses were immaculate and just as pretty as the models in Vogue. These days, things have changed. It is a shame that some of the old style glamour has gone but low cost airlines have made traveling abroad very affordable indeed. Savvy internet users scour endless travel sites for the best possible deals. I am just as guilty as the rest for looking for a bargain break. I recently flew to Palma in Majorca for only 7.00 and got a cheap hotel via Hotels.com with a promo from 5hop5.co.uk.
Palma, Majorca
Palma is a beautiful city and a fabulous destination if you are looking for a city break in the sun. We stayed in a hotel called the Puro Hotel which was ultra cool. The guests were young and chic and the evenings tended to get rather lively. There was an extensive cocktail menu and it is a good job I had got a Hotels.com discount code as I spent a fortune sampling the drinks! Needless to say my bar bill was more than a little hefty. In the daytime we visited Palma's gothic Cathedral and also had a little retail therapy in the numerous boutiques and designer clothes shops.
Voucher Codes
Palma is not the only cheap deal I have found on the internet. I have also been to Greece, India and the Caribbean. All booked via cheap online travel retailers. If you are looking for a cheap break away, stay away from packaged holidays. The flight and the hotel need to be booked separately to keep the costs down. I use an internet site called flightscanner.net to find discounted flights. It basically searches all airlines for the cheapest possible flights. It states that it is a live site but it can sometimes be a little slower in updating information when compared with the airlines own site. Beware-It may show flight seats which are no longer available. I always book my hotel via Hotels.com. They have a wide range of hotels with a variety of prices. Always check 5shop5.co.uk for available Hotels.com coupons. They will make your trip even cheaper.
Full Circle
I wonder if the travel industry will ever go full circle and become more elitist again. I think there is still a market for super luxury travel and I think that eventually people will start to think about quality travel rather than simply being cramped up in cattle class. However until that time comes I intend to make full use of the cheap fights and hotels available. Even as we speak I am searching for a cheap hotel in New York. The prices don't look to bad and if I can get a Hotels.com voucher code via 5hop5.co.uk then I will be "quids in". Lets make the most of it whilst it lasts.

Where can I find the cheapest hotels in NYC?
I want to visit there for 2 or 3 days, but being a broke college kid, I barely have any money. Anyone know of a website that can tell me, or a specific place that's located relatively close to NYC attractions where I can get a room for less than $100 a night? I'm willing to go bottom of the line here, Super 8, Motel 6, Knight's Inn sort of deal. Or privately owned trash heap, whichever. If anyone has any idea or suggestions, that would be great.
